Midnight Rider VR is a game that combines the smooth gun mechanics of Robo Recall with the stylish fast-paced experience of Distance. The project was a two week prototype made in Unreal Engine 4 with the primary virtual reality headset used for development being the Oculus Rift with Oculus Touch controllers. It's planned to be released on the Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, and Windows Mixed Reality headsets.

It is a 5 person project where I handled most of the gameplay implementation. This includes:

  • Shooting and grabbing guns with the Oculus Touch controllers
  • Acceleration and turning mechanics of driving a motorcycle in virtual reality
  • VFX for the game including snow, laser sights, and explosions
  • Player health and collisions with enemy bullets
  • SFX for picking up and firing guns, explosions, and reflecting bullets
  • Diegetic UI with a visor displaying player speed and health
  • Menu interaction in virtual reality with Oculus Touch controllers
